We’re about 10 minutes away from President Obama’s State of the Union address and Politico has stepped up its coverage accordingly. Several home page items to note:
- An “Watch Live” feature links to a video program including three anchors and reporters with congressman. As one analyst quipped, “This is our Super Bowl, welcome to the pregame.”
- An above-the-fold photo of Obama pictured delivering the address to an empty chamber with a headline linking to an overview from the released text.
- Several subheads lay out more of Obama’s talking points, with the full text available as well.
- Even a live blog is halfway down the page from a correspondent in the chamber with an “aisle seat…wearing a bright lime green blazer.”
- The GOP response is also including in the coverage.
Very impressive so far, but it will be interesting to see if Politico scores a multimedia touchdown on its Super bowl or fumbles at the one-yard line. Stay tuned.
